What to Expect at Your First Jiu-Jitsu Class
ADULTS
What Should I Wear?
For the gi class, a gi/kimono is required. If you do not already own one, we will provide you with a loaner gi for your first class.
For no-gi class, rash guards, spats, grappling shorts or boardshorts are common. However, any athletic type clothes are acceptable.
What to Expect?
At the begining of class, you will be introduced to some of the most basic fundamental Jiu-Jitsu movements. Then you’ll join the rest of the class and learn the technique(s) of the week, drilling with a partner. At the end of class, you'll have the opportunity to live roll/spar. This part is completely optional and gives you the opportunity to practice and apply techniques learned against another person.
KIDS
What Should Your Child Wear?
A gi/kimono is required for the kids’ class. If you do not already own one, we will provide your child with a loaner gi for their first class.
What Should Your Child Bring?
It’s important to stay hydrated. Bring a water bottle as they will have opportunites for water breaks.
What to Expect?
Our kids’ classes are approximately one hour long and broken down into three parts: warm-ups, technique and application. We start class with stretching and functional exercises to prepare their bodies for physical activity. The main part of the class is techniques and drilling. Lastly, the class ends with a game or application of techniques. For our 5-7 year olds, classes will be 40-45 mins long.
